Hart Prarie

This straw bale home is completely off the grid just off Hart Prarie Road.  The owners cross country ski into the site from Highway 180 in the winter time.

The home is very comfortable with heating coming from the passive solar design and is supplemented by a wood stove.  There are several trombe walls on the south side plus most of the windows which help to moderate the temperatures in the structure.

Waste water goes through a greywater planter in an attached greenhouse.  The high humidity levels are controled by isolating the greenhouse from the house with a sealed door.  Composting toilets handle the blackwater waste.

Photovoltaics provide the electricity for the home and water is collected off the roof.
